Defense alliance accelerates commercialization for technology products and contributes to regional economic development by supporting small businesses in the Upper Midwest. We serve as a vital bridge between the private-sector Defense Industrial Base and Federal acquisition requirements and priorities.
In the face of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, NATO Allies stepped up their defence and deterrence efforts. They agreed to strengthen the Alliance’s forward presence by deploying four NATO multinational battlegroups to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland in addition to those already deployed in the region. They also adopted a new NATO Force Model and established the Allied Reaction Force to provide an improved capability to rapidly respond to threats, crises and challenges across the full spectrum of Alliance capabilities at very short notice.
A key aspect of the Alliance’s collective defence is its Article 5 commitment to mutual support, in which Allies agree to come to each other’s aid when threatened. This enables the Alliance to preserve peace and security in an unpredictable world in which no one nation can be left undefended.
NATO’s continued adaptation is driven by its key military concepts – the Concept for Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic Area (DDA) and the NATO Readiness Initiative. These are aimed at strengthening the Alliance’s ability to defend itself against threats from all directions, by providing strategic, domain-specific and regional military plans, as well as advanced capability development and exercise planning. These are complemented by the Alliance’s robust network of Combined Joint Task Forces, which provide the capacity to respond at very short notice to any crisis or challenge.
